What ages do you work with?

Preschool children (birth - 5 years)
Elementary, middle, and high school students
Adult non-native English speakers on elective services such as accent modification

How much are sessions?

$155 per 45-minute session
Package option of 6 session for $810 ($135/session)
Receipts for the session are provided after each session
Please note that additional fees are charged for extra services, if required, such as: assessment reports, letters of support, attendance at IEP/ISSP meetings, etc.
For sessions paid for by an organization, the session cost is $200 because it includes the cost of other administrative and meeting services often required with these clients

Do you direct bill insurance?

No direct billing
Receipts are emailed after the session (same day), which can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement, if applicable

Can you issue receipts before the session occurs to take advantage of insurance benefits before they expire?

No, this is not allowed under the governing body of Speech-Language Pathologists
Receipts are emailed after a session occurs and cannot be sent beforehand

My infant/toddler only says a few words or sounds and I'm worried. What should I do?

Check the communication milestones for your child's age here
Speak to the child's pediatrician, public health nurse, nurse practitioner about your concerns
If your child is not meeting the communication milestones for their age, contact me to talk about it
It's not uncommon for me to have a few sessions with a family to demonstrate early language stimulation strategies to implement at home to get those early words coming (virtual or in-person)

When should I be concerned about my child's speech?

While it's important to remember that children develop at different speeds and in different ways, a parent's intuition is often something I take seriously
Feel free to call or email me with your concerns and I will let you know if an initial session is necessary or not at this time

My child is struggling with reading and/or writing. Is this something speech therapists can help with?

Yes!
Literacy skills are part of the speech therapy scope of practice
I have worked with many children on a variety of literacy skills: learning the alphabet, beginning to read, reading age-appropriate books, as well as spelling

What does a speech therapy session with you look like?

This can vary greatly on the child's age and what we are working on
birth - 5 years:
- lots of play and following the child's lead about what we play with in the session
- it's my job to find ways to incorporate the goals we are targeting while playing
- parent involvement is highly encouraged - I want you to feel confident about how to work on our goals at home
elementary school age:
- lots of games and fun activities, typically while sat at a table
- homework is often provided
middle and high school age:
- activities similar to school with lots of help and support to boost their confidence
- focus on academic skills that directly relate to any difficulties at school
adult non-native English speakers:
- various, structured activities to target our goals
- we will use a shared Google Doc so you access it outside of sessions to practice
- lots of realistic role-playing activities
- professional, clear, and knowledgeable feedback in a fun and engaging way!

Do parents have to attend the sessions?

Parents must attend at least SOME of the sessions so you can see what we are working on to understand how to best support and practice your child's goals at home
At home is where significant progress can be made more quickly because you are with your children much more than I am with them in sessions
For preschool children (5 years and under) I typically require parents to attend all sessions
For school aged children, parents do not have to attend all sessions as long as the child is comfortable, the child is potty trained, and this arrangement is agreed on with me in advance

How do you do virtual sessions with young children?

I use a lot of fun computer games and can give you access so the child can engage (click, touch) with the activity
For very young children or those who don't show interest in interacting with a screen, virtual sessions are focused on parent coaching where I will instruct you what to do with your child while I observe and provide feedback. This can be a great way to get started on learning some techniques while you are on a waitlist for in-person services.

How often are speech therapy sessions? For how long will my child need to be in therapy?

Speech therapy sessions ideally should be weekly for many cases, though this can vary
Clients are in charge of booking their sessions through the Jane booking system, so frequency of sessions can be bi-weekly or monthly, but weekly sessions are most typical and what are often recommended
Length of the therapy journey varies significantly, but will likely be at least 1 year
Children with significant delays will likely qualify for and benefit from speech therapy services throughout their childhood
Children with a few pronunciation errors may be able to correct those in less than 1 year, but this depends a lot on the child themselves, their attention span and awareness, as well as parent involvement and practice at home

I'm concerned that my child is behind. Am I able to get them assessed without committing to continued sessions?

Absolutely!
I recommend booking an initial session where we will meet each other, discuss concerns, and make a plan moving forward
Often times a full formal assessment isn't necessary, but is absolutely doable
I often don't do a formal, standardized assessment because it can take several sessions and is therefore a significant amount of time and money for the family
There are cases, especially for older school-aged children, where a more formal assessment is appropriate and would therefore be recommended

Do you provide assessment reports?

Not typically, as they can take a lot of time to write and I would have to charge families my hourly rate to complete those reports
An assessment report can absolutely be done, however, if needed
I will often do shorter letter of support for families who require communication devices, referral to another professional, etc. as needed, for a fee

How does booking sessions work?

Click the link below and you will be redirected to my booking platform Jane
Select "INITIAL Session" either IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL from the list of session options
You will be prompted to create a profile before you can book sessions
Create a profile for yourself (the parent) and then a separate one for your child (the client), you should be able to link the two profiles using Jane's "relationship" option - if you have any trouble creating your profile(s), please don't hesitate to contact me. I can create the profiles for you, I just need a few pieces of information.
You will also be prompted to add a credit card to your profile - this will only be charged on the day of your session NOT at the time of booking. It is on file to hold your sessions. I cannot see your credit card info in the system. It is encrypted in the Jane software and only allows me to see the card type and the last 4 digits.
If you've already had an initial session with me, scroll down to find "Speech Therapy Session" from the list (the only difference between this option and an initial session is that you won't be emailed about completing an intake form again)
If you don't see availability that works with your schedule, please let me know, as I can sometimes be flexible!
Feel free to add yourself to the waitlist in Jane for specific dates and times that work with your schedule - you will then be automatically notified as soon as there is a cancellation

How do I pay for sessions?

Most typical option: session rate is charged to your credit card on your profile in the Jane booking system on the day of your session
If you want to purchase a 6-session package, just let me know, and the entire cost of the package ($810) will be charged to your credit card on file on the date of the first session of your package
EMT option: if you prefer to e-transfer the payment, that is possible, please contact me for information
If your sessions will be paid for by an organization such as ICFI, Jordan's Principle, or CSSD, please contact me for more information as it's not possible to book a session online yourself without a credit card on file

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours notice to cancel/reschedule a session, otherwise the full payment amount will be charged to your credit card on file (or will be deducted from your package, if applicable)
A session can be cancelled/rescheduled yourself by logging into your Jane profile or you can email/call/text me
You will not be able to cancel a session in Jane yourself if it is less than 24 hours before the session
If a cancelled session is charged for, you will receive a receipt stating "Late Cancellation" or "No Show"

My child is approved for sessions paid for by an organization (ICFI, Jordan's Principle, CSSD, etc.). How do I book sessions?

Why are there no reviews on your website? How do I know you are legitimate?

Testimonials/reviews are not allowed to be displayed on private practice websites due to regulations by the speech-language pathologists governing entity
